CTMA organizes free cataract surgery camp for the poor in Kolkata

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 25: The Cable TV Equipments Traders & Manufacturers Association (CTMA), in association with East Kolkata Nagrik Foundation, organised a Free Eye Operation Camp for more than 100 cataract patients from the economically weaker sections of the society at Lake Town, Kolkata, on Sunday. Dr Sayantan Ghosh and his team performed the phaco surgeries on needy patients.

More than 100 patients, mostly elderly, were operated upon by eye surgeon, Dr Shiladitya Mukherjee, at the Foundation’s Laketown facility.

“CTMA has been organizing free eye camps for the past many years for the needy people who cannot afford eye surgery. We are thankful to eye surgeon Dr Shiladitya Mukherjee and our associate East Kolkata Nagrik Foundation for making the Free Eye Operation camp a huge success. CTMA has donated eye-care equipment to the Foundation to facilitate eye-care services for the general and especially poor citizens,” said Mr Pawan Jajodia, Treasurer, CTMA.

Various requisite medical tests are conducted in advance prior to the eye camp starting with ECG, blood, ultrasonography and biometric tests etc., as a run-up to the eye surgery. Post surgery follow up action is conducted from the next day onwards after the completion of the eye camp.

Members of CTMA Rajesh Doshi, President, Rajendra Prasad Agarwal, Vice-President, Pawan Jajodia, Treasurer, Pawan Gupta, Jt Secretary, Pawan Bajaj,  Jt Treasurer, Purushottam Kejriwal, EC Member, Ram Kishan Bajaj, member and Prakash Nahata, member CTMA were present on the occasion alongside members of East Kolkata Nagarik Foundation – Pritam Kr Daftary, President, Purushottam Lal Khetan, Secretary, Prakash Rajaji, Jt Secretary, Dr Alok Tiwari, medico-legal advisor, Anil Jajodia, EC member.

Each year CTMA, which hosts Saarc region’s largest cable television show in Kolkata, as a part of its social welfare initiative, organizes the Free Eye Operation Camp for the needy persons. More than 500 people have benefited so far.
