After successful regional festivals in Indore, Lucknow and Shimla, the\u00a0Delhi festival brings aboard collaborators including the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) New Delhi, WWF India, AIR&amp; IUCN CEC.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"fr-fic fr-dib aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/risingentrepreneurs.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/postpressreleasecontent9aec150f-9be0-4810-a993-403c4dda2fd3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"807\" data-key=\"\" data-unqkey=\"\" data-loadmore=\"0\" data-datasize=\"0\" data-showentries=\"0\" data-totalentries=\"0\" data-url=\"\" data-message=\"Invalid request\"><\/p>\n<p>The festival kicked off on October 3rd with an inauguration ceremony graced by esteemed dignitaries.\u00a0<strong>Dr. Ramesh M<\/strong>, Scientist F at MoEF&amp;CC, delivered the welcome address, followed by\u00a0<strong>Ms. Vasanti Rao<\/strong>, DG of CMS, who highlighted the critical importance of wetlands.\u00a0<strong>Ms. TainaDyckhoff<\/strong>, Head of Division for Climate and Environment at the German Embassy New Delhi, emphasized the strong bilateral cooperation between India and Germany. Representing the Government of India,\u00a0<strong>Dr. Amandeep Garg<\/strong>, Additional Secretary MoEF&amp;CC, GoI, stressed the importance of community participation in wetland conservation, while\u00a0<strong>Mr. Jitendra Kumar<\/strong>, DG of Forest &amp; Special Secretary at MoEF&amp;CC,GoI, delivered the inaugural address, mentioning the powerful campaign \u201cOne Tree in the Name of the Mother\u201d, a government initiative towards wetland preservation.<\/p>\n<p>The day also featured the opening of the \u2018Wetlands for LiFE\u2019 Painting Exhibition, showcasing beautiful artworks celebrating the importance of wetlands, followed by impactful film screenings. The day concluded with an engaging panel discussion on \u201cResilient Wetlands, Resilient Communities: Gender and Climate Adaptation,\u201d featuring experts line\u00a0<strong>Mr. Suresh Babu<\/strong>\u00a0(WWF-India),\u00a0<strong>Dr.Ritesh Kumar<\/strong>\u00a0(Wetlands International South Asia),\u00a0<strong>Dr.Archana Chatterjee<\/strong>\u00a0(Iucn India Country Office),\u00a0<strong>Ms. GargiRawat<\/strong>\u00a0(NDTV), and\u00a0<strong>Mr. KirtimanAwasthi<\/strong>\u00a0(GIZ) and moderated by\u00a0<strong>Ms. Vasanti Rao<\/strong>, DGCMS. The discussions saw active participation from the audience, sparking insightful conversations<\/p>\n<p>The second day started witha special session led by WWF-India, spotlighting the incredible efforts of Wetland Mitras\u2014local champions who are driving grassroots action for wetland conservation. We heard inspiring stories from Wetland Mitras from Uttar Pradesh, reminding us of the crucial role that communities play in protecting these vital ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the day was the engaging panel discussion \u201cConservation Stories: A Conversation with the Creators,\u201d featuring National Award-winning filmmakers\u00a0<strong>Mr. Krishnendu Bose<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ms. AkankshaSood Singh<\/strong>, along with\u00a0<strong>Mr. Sarthak Chawla<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mr. OshankSoni<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ms. Imrana Khan<\/strong>. These environmental storytellers shared their journeys, challenges, and the future of conservation filmmaking. The conversation left us all inspired and hopeful for the future of environmental awareness through powerful storytelling!<\/p>\n<p>The festival concluded with screening of the 12th CMS VATAVARAN award-winning films in the presence of dignitaries including\u00a0<strong>Dr. Amandeep Garg<\/strong>, Additional Secretary, MoEF&amp;CC, GoI,\u00a0<strong>Dr.YashveerBhatnagar<\/strong>, Head, IUCN India Office and Nomination Jury Head of 12th CMS VATAVARAN, and\u00a0<strong>Mr Vivek Menon<\/strong>, Founder Wildlife Trust of India, IUCN Councillor and an eminent Conservationist. This year\u2019s edition of the festival received 800 plus film submissions from 68 countries, through peer review, 320 films were shortlisted, out of which 66 films\u201437 National and 29 International\u2014were selected for nominations, the award jury reviewed these films and out of which 8 national &amp; 6 international films were selected for the final awards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The closing ceremony honoured outstanding contributions in environmental filmmaking. In the National category, the winners included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Amateur &amp; Students Films: \u201cGanga Ke Do Kinare\u201d by Asna Jamal, Archana Singh, and Avikal<\/p>\n<p>2. Livelihoods &amp; Sustainable Technologies: \u201cJhum: The Shifting Landscape\u201d by Imrana Khan<\/p>\n<p>3. Climate Change \u2013 Adaptation &amp; Mitigation: \u201cNo Water, No Village\u201d by MunmunDhalaria<\/p>\n<p>4. Environment Conservation: \u201cSHADE\u201d by SudheeshSivasankaran<\/p>\n<p>5. Wildlife Conservation: \u201cBLOODLINE\u201d by ShriharshGajbhiye<\/p>\n<p>6. Water Conservation: \u201cP for Pyaaz, P for Paisa, P for Paani\u201d by LaxminarayanDevda<\/p>\n<p>7. Special jury mention in Water Conservation: \u201cAll Day and All of the Night\u201d by PriyaNaresh<\/p>\n<p>7. Short Films for Conservation: \u201cOne for Change\u201d by AkankshaSood<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Vasanti Rao, Director General of CMS, reflected on the success of the event: \u201cThis year\u2019s theme, \u2018Wetlands for LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment),\u2019 has resonated deeply with filmmakers and audiences alike. Through these powerful visual narratives, we\u2019ve seen how wetlands are not just ecosystems, but lifelines for communities and wildlife. The festival has once again proven to be a crucial platform for environmental discourse and action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr.YashveerBhatnagar, Head of IUCN India Office and Nomination Jury Head of the 12th CMS VATAVARAN, shared his experience: \u201cIt has been an absolute privilege to lead the nomination jury for this year\u2019s CMS VATAVARAN. The films we reviewed have not only showcased great storytelling but also highlighted the urgency of wetland conservation and the broader environmental challenges we face today. The creativity of filmmakers from India &amp;across the globe have reinforced my belief that visual media is a powerful tool for change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chief Guest Dr. Amandeep Garg, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, emphasized the importance of such initiatives: \u201cThe Wetlands for LiFE and CMS VATAVARAN festivals provide a vital platform for enriching exchange on how we can work together to protect these invaluable ecosystems. These films not only raise awareness but inspire action at both individual and community levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The festival also featured a \u2018Wetlands for LiFE\u2019 Painting Exhibition, showcasing artworks from a competition that engaged 200 young artists across Delhi NCR. The top honours went to HritvijaPandey from Kamla Nehru College, Sanskriti Singh from ManavRachna International Institute and Ishaan Nagepalli from TERI School of Advanced Studies.<\/p>\n<p>The Wetlands for LiFE&amp; 12th CMS VATAVARAN International Film Festival and Forum has proven to be a cornerstone event in environmental advocacy, bringing together filmmakers, policymakers, students, and environmental enthusiasts.
