Alibag (Maharashtra) [India], June 5: <\/b>On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Hiremath Family Foundation, led by Varun Hiremath, launched its latest rural eco-initiative \u2014 \u2018Green Change\u2019 \u2014 in the coastal region of Alibag, Maharashtra. This grassroots movement is designed to inspire school children to take the lead in village-level waste management and environmental care.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aligned with this year\u2019s global theme, \u201cOur Land, Our Future,\u201d the program puts environmental action into the hands of the future generation \u2014 equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to build cleaner, greener communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The launch saw active participation from around 150 children across nearby government schools, who engaged in sessions on waste segregation, composting basics, and the importance of saying no to plastic. The excitement was visible as children got hands-on experience building compost pits, creating awareness posters, and planning local clean-up drives.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTrue environmental change starts from the ground \u2014 and there\u2019s no ground more fertile than young minds,\u201d said Varun Hiremath, Co-Founder of the Hiremath Family Foundation. \u201cThrough Green Change, we are not just teaching children to manage waste \u2014 we\u2019re helping them become leaders in their own villages.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative is being implemented in three focused phases:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Eco-Literacy Workshops \u2013 <\/b>Training sessions on managing household and school waste.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. School-Led Action \u2013<\/b> Students launch mini-campaigns for waste audits, bin placements, and cleanup drives.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Village Integration \u2013<\/b> Children collaborate with panchayats and families to adopt sustainable waste solutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The pilot phase has begun in three villages near Alibag, with plans to reach at least six more villages by December 2025. Teachers and local community members have expressed strong support, noting the children\u2019s enthusiasm and the ripple effect it has already created in their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The event concluded with a symbolic \u201cGreen March\u201d through village lanes \u2014 students carrying banners reading \u201cBhoomi Meri Jimmedari\u201d (My Earth, My Responsibility) and distributing seed balls as a reminder of their commitment to nature.<\/span><\/p>\n
